Eddy Play

Kayaking on the inland sea side of the Amakusa Islands, Kumamoto, Japan. Such are our typical mornings before afternoon work as English teachers. We feel lucky to have such a wonderful playground right on our back step. Many thanks to local maker Waterfield Kayaks for our beloved Greenland-style Qaanaaqs, which we invariably use for day trips these days.

  • Superb video!! I enjoyed it. Kayaking, rock-climbing, and paragliding…you guys are truly nature-loving people and/or a part of the nature. What will be the next? I’d like to try kayaking a bit, at least “AIR-kayaking,” ha…ha…ha.

  • hi kaz. thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. Why don`t you come to Amakusa sometime this summer and come kayaking with us?

  • Great video! I like your car loading, and vending machine stops. Pretty cool rolls too, especially when your camera goes under water!

    Nice music pairing too!

Oh wow! Hi Leanne and Rik, your blog is so inspiring! My name is Roxy. I'm a female British ALT based just outside of Kyoto city and this June a friend and I will be visiting Amakusa Island! I found your blog whilst researching the island and was wondering if you could give me some advice on things to see and do in the area, especially recommended hikes! :D Any help would be very much appreciated!! And if you ever need a place to stay just outside of Kyoto, let me know!
