Tokara Island Expedition Day 1

Leanne and Rik boarded the ferry today for Amami Ooshima, Kagoshima Prefecture. The ferry left at 6 and arrived in Naze at 5 am. Hopefully they will manage to drag their heavy tandem boat down the tetrapods (there is no slope) and will head north toward the uninhabited Yokoate Island and then on to Takara Island. Currently, according to the Japanese Coast Guard wind meter, the wind is blowing 3m/s. To follow their route during the next 2 weeks, check out their track at SPOT.

  • Hey guys, don't know when you'll see these comments, but I'm getting your SPOT messages OK and know that you're now overnighting after your first leg.
    Good luck.

  • thanks woody. we got your comment loud and clear. in fact here we are sitting in front of brand new computers with high speed internet on one of the most remote islands in Japan. so far things are going well, although the weather has been and will continue to be a force to be dealt with. hope you are doing well and enjoying your time on the lake.
